Lexicon
Sovereign cloud, A to Z.
Plain definitions for the language of sovereign healthcare cloud.
Bifrost
Sovereign AI inference at the summit of the stack: model hosting and inference run inside the boundary, so data never leaves the ground it sits on.
Capitalised cloud
A model where cloud infrastructure is treated as a balance sheet asset rather than an unpredictable operating expense, removing egress fees and metered surprises.
Ceph
An open source, distributed storage system that is self healing and self managing, used within the 3verest foundation for resilient object and block storage.
Data residency
A requirement that data is physically stored within a defined geography. The floor of sovereignty, not the ceiling: residency alone does not prevent foreign legal reach.
Data sovereignty
The principle that data is subject only to the laws and governance of the jurisdiction it belongs to, across storage, operation, control and assurance.
Digital pathology
The digitisation of pathology slides into whole slide images, generating very large datasets that demand high throughput, sovereign storage.
Edge cloud
Sovereign compute, storage and GPU extended onto the customer premise, delivering local inference and low latency at the point of care.
Egress
The charge a cloud levies to move data out of its network. A common source of unforecastable bills, eliminated under the capitalised model.
Entra ID
Microsoft’s identity service. Critical to healthcare access, yet not meaningfully backed up by Microsoft, which is the gap Polaris closes.
Firecracker microVM
A lightweight virtualisation technology providing strong isolation with millisecond start up, used by Forge for sovereign, compliant workloads.
Forge
The 3verest healthcare developer platform: sovereign and compliant by default, built on Firecracker microVMs.
GAIA-X
A European framework for sovereign, federated cloud and data infrastructure. 3verest is an active member.
HSCN
The Health and Social Care Network, the UK’s private network connecting healthcare organisations. 3verest holds an active connection.
Jurisdictional sovereignty
Control over whose courts can compel access to data, including immunity from extraterritorial law.
NVMe over fabric
A storage protocol delivering very low latency access to NVMe media across a network, underpinning sub second imaging retrieval.
OpenStack
The open source cloud platform at the core of 3verest, providing orchestration and control with no hyperscaler dependency.
PACS
Picture Archiving and Communication System: the platform that stores, retrieves and distributes medical images.
Sentinel
The 3verest AI driven security and management plane that observes, patches, scales and defends every region.
Sovereign capsule
A self contained, self sufficient and locally governed 3verest region, carrying its own full stack from foundation to intelligence.
Spine and leaf
A non oversubscribed network topology delivering consistent, high performance connectivity within a capsule.
VNA
Vendor Neutral Archive: imaging storage independent of any single PACS vendor, so data is portable and future proof.
